Bonsai garden without the pots?

I'd like to do a garden of bonsai type plants. My question is what is involved and what do I need to know if I do not use pots I want to plant the trees and such directly in the ground but have them maintain a bonsai look - miniature. Is this possible? Are the plants/tree's able to remain the way I envision?

Hi Andrew,

You can maintain the bonsai look of your trees simply by performing regular pruning of both the foliage and roots of the trees. Refer to our species guides to learn how to do this on different trees!
